In the 1960s and 70’s, Lisa visited her grandmothers in Hallandale, FL, about 40 minutes north of Miami. Occasionally, the family would venture to the adjacent city of Hollywood, which was a bit dumpy and honkytonk, but had a fun beach broadwalk for strolling and gawking.
Fast forward 50 years and Lisa was once again visiting family in Florida and stayed a few nights in the completely transformed city of Hollywood. The once-shabby downtown is now pedestrian-friendly and alive with scores of restaurants, bars, shops and tattoo parlors. If Miami is too crazy, and Ft. Lauderdale too boring…check out Hollywood. We would have loved it even if we hadn’t stumbled on a new wine bar…which of course we did!
Hollywood native Tal Cohen [in photo] opened The Vintage on Harrison in April 2024, after decades in the wine sales biz. We seek out wine bars wherever we travel, and Vintage on Harrison is just about perfect. Tal is knowledgeable and selective in his wine choices, but not snooty.
The bar and outdoor patio are lively but not loud. The tasting room menu includes standards like Bruschetta and Caprese Salad and more interesting fare like Smoked Salmon Carpaccio and Grilled Artichokes.
The By The Glass list is just right—16 bottles during our visit—and balances old favorites with more esoteric wines. And there’s a small wine shop adjacent to the bar if the spirit moves you.

We ordered a red flight and a white/rosé, each with three pours. Gary was particularly wild about the 2018 Arkenstone NVD Cab from Napa Valley while Lisa favored the 2022 Charles Joguet Chinon Rose from the Loire Valley [FR]—a crisp, fruity Cabernet Franc. Each wine had a story and Tal was up to the task of explaining what we were drinking and its origins. We can’t recommend Vintage on Harrison enough and hope you have a chance to discover its charms. Tell them VinoDuo sent you!
